Soccer tournament off to a great start

The Matsulu Soccer Cup 2015, previously known by the community of Matsulu as Sukumani Sidlale Soccer Tournament, is back by popular demand.

Last week saw the return of this much-loved tournament
in this area. It was actually initiated by Sukumani Community Empowerment project in 2007, sponsored by TSB Sugar, TRAC and local
businesses.

It was a successful event hosted annually from June to August for four seasons, 2007 until 2010. Just like the Selati Cup in the
Nkomazi subregion, this tourney has over the years proven to be a hit as it attracted more people, especially the youth.

To spice it up, the return of this tournament has seen the inclusion of rugby and this move has since been welcomed by both local teams and the entire community.

In the rugby category, there are four secondary schools vying for the coveted cup, with 15 soccer teams competing for a win.

The games kick-started on Sunday, which saw Mbombela Real Stars defeating Young Green Mambas 3-2 and Matsulu City Royal winning Stam Limited 1-0.

In other matches, Teenage All Stars defeated Bazooka XI 3- 0 and Days United won on penalties by 4-3 after they fought to a one-all draw during regulation time against Matsulu Chelsea.

On Monday Matsulu Liverpool won 3-1 on penalties against Litsemba FC, FC Matsulu defeated Young Ludziwo FC by 3-0 and the Green Mambas defeated Ludziwo FC by 3-0.
