Youth is eager to make a change

KANYAMAZANE – A group of local young people has formed a non-profit organisation called Children of Success, which is aimed at instilling moral values in the youth of the country.

“We aim to touch at least
10 000 lives directly each year via our donations, physical skill development and bursary awards. We also aim to touch indirectly at least 5 000 lives annually through our seminars, networking events and social media outreach programmes,” said Ayanda Khoza, the secretary.

She added that the organisation was formed on September 16 last year by Ms Tsepiso Makhubedu, after her involvement with SABC 2’s TV show The Big Break Legacy.

“As teenage pregnancy was the main focus, Tsepiso and her team brought in more than 50 teenagers from all walks of life and through song, dance and public speaking, they formulated an amazing flashmob that touched the lives of many people in the township of Alexandra where teenage pregnancy is rife,” said Makhubedu.

Around Mbombela the group began with its high school outreach programmes termed “Changing lives in 30 minutes” in February.

The first outreach was at Lowveld High School on February 24, where famous HIV/Aids actvist Lebo Motsumi spoke at length on how she contracted HIV/Aids at the age of 19 as a result of bad decision making.

Group members had made their presentations at Pilgrim’s Rest High School, Memezile High , Likazi Central, ZB Kunene Secondary, SOS Children’s Homes as well as Mama’s Esther Safe Haven in Msholozi.

“We aim to reach thousands of youths all over the country to educate them, help them change their their mentality and make sound decisions about their lives,” a member said.

They also urged all matric learners to do their best in this year’s exams.

“This is the time that will make their future, they should study hard and make a lot of sacrifices just for these few months,” added Khoza.
