Trio nabbed for murder and kidnapping of illegal miner

The body of the illegal miner that was found in Barberton yesterday.

BARBERTON-  Three suspects are to appear at the local magistrate’s court for an alleged murder and kdnapping of an illegal miner.

A probe has been was instituted following the alleged incident of kidnapping, leaving no stone unturned.The victim, Tshepo Shabangu, was reportedly kidnapped early December last year.

During the probe, police discovered that Shabangu was last seen on December 4, 2016, and was allegedly been attacked and kidnapped by a group of men, including the trio on allegations related to an illegal mining deal which went sour.  The first suspect,  24-year-old Swenkie Mashaba  was arrested this week , and was charged with kidnapping. Mashaba has already appeared before the Barberton Magistrate’s Court and he was remanded in custody until January 10, pending further investigation.

Yesterday during interrogation, two more suspects were arrested, with one of them confessing to assaulting the victim to death and  then dumping his body in bushes outside Barberton.  All three suspects will appear at the Magistrate’s Court in Barberton.
