Acornbush United gets their wish

Kaizer Chiefs defender, Daniel Cardoso and Mduduzi Nkosi of Acornbush during the Nedbank Cup Last 16 draw at SuperSport Studios on March 16, 2017 in Johannesburg.

After beating high-flying Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup Last 32, Acornbush United coach MacDonald “Bambino” Makhubedu wished to meet another Premier Soccer League (PSL) club in the tournament; his wish was granted when they were drawn against Kaizer Chiefs last night.

Makhubedu stressed that he and his minnows were looking forward to meeting the country’s cup specialists at Randburg in Johannesburg. Acornbush hope to repeat the feat of the then third-tier outfit, Baroka FC, when they beat AmaKhosi in the quarter-finals in 2011.

Meanwhile, the venue and the date for the matches are yet to be announced, but Acornbush are expected to host their encounter against the mighty AmaKhosi at Mbombela Stadium and not at their home venue of KaBokweni.

This problem comes with the rules that are set by the PSL when it comes to capacity at their home ground of KaBokweni Stadium. The stadium is a 10 000 seater but PSL rates it as a 5 000 seater. And on a match day, Acornbush is permitted to accommodate 3 000 fans.
