The Nelspruit Magistrate's Court.

An uncle, a Jericho prophet and a traditional healer are among the six accused charged with the kidnapping of a three-year-old girl.

The girl went missing on October 30, 2015 in Mgobodzi, Nkomazi Local Municipality.

The trial of the six accused aged between 18 and 44, Mr Louis Sithole, Sifiso Mazibe, Sathane Maziya, Themba Mnyambo, Jabulani Ndlovu and Sgodvo Mokoena continues in the Nelspruit High Court.

The six pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and murder of the young girl.

On June 27 Mazibe told the court that he was forced by the arresting officers to submit the statements he gave to them after being severely assaulted and kicked by the police.

He claimed that this happened for about 30 minutes at the Schoemandal holding cells.

He added that the police further threw him against walls of the cell like a cement bag

The state prosecutor, Adv Sonja Ntuli then asked Mazibe if he did tell his legal representative about the allegations he was making in court.

Mazibe said: “I forgot to tell my lawyer about this,” he said.

Drama also unfolded when some of the accused asked Judge GM Makhanya to save them from the victim’s family members seated in the public gallery who were apparently whispering behind their backs to bring back the child.

“Help me, I’m being accused here,” said one of the accused.

Judge GM Makhanya then called on the people in the public gallery to behave themselves and desist from doing that as the court has not yet concluded the matter.

The matter is continuing in court.
