A mother who abandoned her baby is still on the run

PIENAAR – A mother who allegedly dumped her nine month-old baby at a day care centre two years ago, has still not been found.

It is alleged that the mother, who introduced herself as Mbali Maseko from Secunda, told a 70-year-old granny who is looking after children in the community, that she was rushing to work and she would come and fetch the baby after work, but it never happened.
According to information at the police’s disposal, Maseko, recently, allegedly called the granny and promised to deposit money so that she can buy food for the baby. The granny frantically questioned her why she wasn’t collecting her baby, she hung up.
The spokesperson of the local police, Sgt Jabu Ndubane told Mpumalanga News that there is foul play in this matter because the mother on the run, submitted untraceable information about herself.
“We condemn such incidents. How can you leave a child with a stranger for two years and never come back? The granny told us she had never met this woman before and finds herself in such a dilemma,” said Ndubane.
