House robberies a concern in White River

Due to escalating cases of house robberies, the local police have urged home owners to properly lock their house windows and doors.

It’s important to lock the doors even if you are inside the house. We have seen that many house robberies take place in the early hours of the evening when families leave their doors unlocked,” warns Sgt Cynthia Mbokodo, spokesperson of White River police.

7 easy ways of preventing break-ins and robberies in your house:

*Ensure there is enough light around your house to be able to see any movements around.

*Cut down tall trees in your yard.
*Install burglar proofs on your doors and windows
* Make your home looks occupied, and make it difficult to break in.

Lock all outside doors and windows before you leave the house or go to bed. Even if it is for a short time, lock your doors.

*Leave lights on when you go out. If you are going to be away for a long time, connect some lamps to
automatic timers to turn them on in the evening and off during the day.
*Keep your garage door closed and locked.
