One customer shot during five business robberies in Tonga

A shopper is recovery in hospital after he was shot on his leg during one of the five business robberies reported at Tonga police station this weekend.

According to Capt Magonseni Nkosi, a 31-year-old man was shot on his leg by unknown men who were on their way from robbing a shop at Ntunda at 18:30 on Saturday.

“The victim was approaching the shop when he got shot by the criminals who robbed the shop of an undisclosed amount of cash,” he said.

Nkosi added that other four business robberies including two taverns from Tonga and Naas plus two shops from Skhwahlane and Block B were also reported at the station.

No arrests have been made so far.

He urged business owners to invest in the security of their businesses by installing panic buttons and CCTV cameras and using services of security companies to look after their businesses.

* Remain calm, cool, and observant.
*Follow the robber’s commands, but do not volunteer to help.
* Do not resist the robber. The money is not worth risking a life.
* Take no action that would jeopardize the safety of personnel or customers.
* Do not use or encourage the use of weapons
* Do not make overt moves. if you need to put your hands in your pockets for a key or anything, the robbers might misinterpret, tell them what you are doing, and why you are doing it.
* If you are handed a note, place it out of sight and retain it for evidence.
* Note type of the suspects clothing including jewellery and the type of weapon used.
* Victims should also note the colour, license number and the make of the robbers’ getaway vehicles.
