Meanwhile, the Mhala Regional Court imposed a 15 year jail sentence on 33-year-old Tebogo Nhlanhla Mokoena from Marite Trust near Bushbuckridge. Mokoena was sentenced on Friday for robbery with aggravating circumstances and further received an additional five years for kidnapping.

The sentencing comes after the accused together with his two accomplices, who were acquitted by the court, accosted a man and his wife, robbed them of cash and a cellphone. The court heard how on 07 September 2014, at about 20:00, the accused (Mokoena) proceeded to tie the man up using his (victim’s) shirt and forcefully took the woman to their house at gunpoint. He searched the house and further helped himself to more cash that was in the house and fled, hence the sentencing. Mokoena was not only sentenced, but was further declared unfit to possess a firearm by the same court.
