#ZumaExit: Zuma given 48 hours to step down

President Jacob Zuma

The African National Congress National Executive Committee has given Jacob Zuma 48- hours to resign as president after an eight hour meeting with the political party’s top leadership.

Reports reveal that the deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa told Zuma on Monday to resign or face being removed through a motion of no confidence in parliament.

It’s been a long battle for Zuma who has survived calls to step down from his position since 2016 due to a number of corruption allegations. Since becoming president in 2009, he has been clouded by scandals including fathering a child with a daughter of his friend and football administrator Irvin Khoza, being linked to the Guptas and the Nkandla Gate resulting in the  Constitutional Court ruling  that Zuma had failed to uphold and respect the Constitution, which was serious grounds for him to be sacked from office.
