Ex-public servants appear in court for R3 million fraud

Three former employees of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform; Ms Grace Mokola (41) and her accomplices Zenzele Jacob Mncwane (47) and Skhumbuzo Nkosi (35); appeared before the Nelspruit Regional Court on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to approximately R3-million.

It is alleged that in 2012 the community of Endlovini Farm applied for renovation funds from the said department.
About R3 million was approved for the project, and the accused allegedly transferred the proceeds into their personal accounts.
The matter was subsequently referred to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit, resulting in the arrest of the accused. They have made a couple of court ppearances to date. The accused were convicted guilty in February 2018 .
An enquiry by the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) in contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA) is expected to proceed on June 14.
