Mpumalanga women who are impacting South African lives

Dr Banothile Makhubela, Dr Khensani Ngobeni and Sphumelele Nokubonga Ngomane,

It is Women’s Month and we are going all out to celebrate women who are doing great things in their communities and the country. These three women are on a quest to make our communities and the country a better place to live in.
As we commemorate Women’s Month in August as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9, 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women, there many women who are still doing extraordinary things and serving their purpose.

Dr Banothile Makhubela

​ Dr Banothile Makhubela from Mzinti in Nkomazi is part of Eskom’s board of directors (Non-Executive Director). She obtained a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cape Town in 2011, Master of Science (MSc) in Chemistry by dissertation from University of Cape Town in 2008, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Chemistry from University of Cape Town in 2006 and Bachelor of Science (BSc) from University of Zululand in 2005. She is currently a Senior Lecturer and Researcher who advises/supervises scientific research projects at BSc Honours, Masters and Ph.D levels at the University of Johannesburg, Department of Chemistry.

Dr Khensani Ngobeni

The skin doctor is a local dermatologist from Thulamahashe who has her own practice in Mbombela. She says she pursues to inform and change people’s lives life through her work as a skin doctor. Her future plans include embarking on a campaign where she offer her services in treating people living with albinism.

Sphumelele Nokubonga Ngomane

Sphumelele Nokubonga Ngomane, from Esibayeni Block C, is 21-year-old who holds a BA degree in Behavioural science Psychology and Sociology and is currently pursuing BA honours degree in Psychology at North West University, Vaal Campus. is part of the largest reputable academic society for top achievers Golden Key International Honours Society (GK) and has travelled overseas to the GK International Summit 2016 at Tucson, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada 2017. SNN is an award winner of the True shine awards for women as a Community builder 2017.
